The UN-REDD Programme has now started the important implementation phase in Indonesia. Forests provide multiple benefits, both for local communities and for biodiversity. It can also store carbon and help combat damaging climate change. The Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) architecture offers an opportunity for Indonesia to reduce deforestation and forest degradation while contributing to sustainable development. The UN-REDD programme will support the Government of Indonesia to develop a fair, equitable and transparent REDD+ architecture.
